CONSOLIDATOR – MY 2026 DECLARATION
A New Year’s Resolution is typically about behavior.
A Declaration is about identity and reality.
A New Year’s Resolution sounds like this:
“I’m going to lose 15 pounds.”
“I’m going to meditate three times a week.”
“I’ll be more compassionate this year.”
Resolutions live in “trying.”
Resolutions depend on willpower, discipline, and reminders.
Resolutions usually come from guilt, shame, and the feeling that “I’m not good enough.”
Resolutions reinforce the idea that “there is something wrong with you that needs to be fixed.”
And most resolutions collapse by February because life shows up, habits return, and old gravity wins.
Resolutions are usually:
aspirational
fragile
conditional
effort-based
past-based
Resolutions are about what you’re going to do.
Resolutions are good intentions.
Resolutions are based on ideals you think you’re not.
A Declaration is different.
A Declaration is a stand you take about who you are and how life is going to go — starting now.
A Declaration doesn’t predict the future. It generates the future.
It sounds like this:
“I am someone who tells the truth — especially when it’s uncomfortable.”
“I am an Elder who stands for wisdom in the world.”
“My life is oriented towards repairing the world.”
There’s no trying. There’s being. I am…
Once declared, your actions begin to align naturally — not because you’re forcing behavior, but because your identity has shifted.
Declarations are:
generative
not identity-based
powerful
grounding
Future-based
They aren’t wishes.
They are commitments spoken into existence.
A declaration is the most powerful of all speech acts.
Here’s the key difference
A resolution hopes.
A declaration creates.
A resolution negotiates with the future.
A declaration reorganizes the present.
A resolution says:
“I want to become the kind of person who...”
A declaration says:
“I AM the kind of person who...
—and now I will live consistently with that.”
Gandhi had it right about declaration. “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
MY 2026 DECLARATION
I am a consolidator of Elders.
A consolidator, as I mean it: I am an Elder who gathers, aligns, and concentrates already-existing wisdom, Elders, resources, and intentions so they begin to function as a coherent force rather than as scattered, isolated efforts.
Scattered wisdom aligns around a shared identity, purpose, and way of being in the world, which enables Elder wisdom to impact the world.

AMEN
Dear Marc,
I don't know how I began receiving your posts, but I have been so resonating and enjoying your framing and language and energy. I've been distributing these among my elder and less elder friends ever since and engaging with their resonance and feedback. So thank you!
I began doing conscious eldering work with Ron Pevny in 2010, and we became friends and colleagues, as I began to promote his programs and books and providing some scholarship funds for people to attend Choosing Conscious Elderhood rites of passage weeks.
One of those I've shared your writing with is my long life partner Karin Lubin, and I understand you are now conversing. I'm delighted!
Though we left resolutions behind long ago and shifted to Intentions, our beginning of the year declarative statements also begin with I AM.
Keep on brother,
Randy
