CHANGING THE NARRATIVE
Why This Moment Demands a New Story
Mini-Book: Changing the Narrative: An Elder’s Plan
Format / Introduction (3-minute read)
This mini book isn’t meant to be read all at once. Each short reflection—each about a four-minute read—stands on its own, yet together they form a single thread: how changing the story you live into, changes the life you live; and how Elders are consciously changing the existing Western cultural narrative.
However, remember that this is my particular view, as a contemporary Elder, on how I and my fellow pilgrims on the Elder path are rewriting the narrative—personally, culturally, and collectively.
As an Elder, having been gifted this residual life, being engaged with wisdom and self-understanding rather than fear or decline, shapes my aging and how I live, learn, and lead every day.
There are now evidentiary reasons that support my particular view. Many of which are outlined below. Moreover, there are many practicing Elders. Check out Substack, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Ask ChatGPT how many individuals and groups have Elder in their titles. In my last Webinar, I had representatives from 7 different countries. The timing for changing the narrative about growing has grown old.
So it makes intuitive, rational, and marketing sense; its upward trajectory of growth is accelerating, and the need for peace, wisdom, stability, common sense, and level-headedness is acute.
The time is right to change the cultural narrative, one that diminishes, dislocates, isolates, disregards, and dissociates you as you age. One that says you don’t matter.
Change the narrative, then everything changes.
Forward
Intention is the focused direction of consciousness — the deliberate act of aligning thought, emotion, and action toward what you mean to bring into existence.
Intention is not wishing or hoping; it’s choosing, directing, and committing energy with awareness.
I intend to produce a mini book on Substack, chapter by chapter, offering a different perspective on how Elders can change the existing cultural narrative.
I intend for the reader to see for themselves and their own lives how this alteration in the current cultural narrative would bring about equanimity.
When equanimity becomes the norm rather than the exception, people relate with clarity rather than conflict, communities heal rather than fracture, and the nation, now driven by fear, begins to act from wisdom.
Consider, the current cultural narrative we live in is so convincing that it shapes our direction, forms our perception, influences our decisions, dictate our actions, and ensures that we stay on its designated path.
In the current cultural narrative, security, calmness, peace of mind, kindness, fairness, equanimity, and compassion are being taken off the table. What is left is a culture running on anxiety and competition, where noise replaces wisdom, speed replaces depth, and people mistake survival for living.
The story this culture tells about itself determines its future—and, by extension, your future. Today’s dominant narrative is collapsing possibilities into a single default outcome: a future where freedom shrinks, autonomy fades, financial stability erodes, and future opportunities disappear.
The core belief of this book is simple and radical: Elders can rewrite the cultural story. They’re not relics of the past—they’re a new kind of disruptive technology that improves what exists.
Can it be done? Can Elders have significant leverage and recognition to change the course of the cultural narrative as currently written?
The book shows how it can be done—because culture changes when its storytellers do. When Elders reclaim their voice and live with clear intention, they don’t just age differently; they alter the direction of history itself.
Change the narrative, and you change what’s possible—for yourself, for others, and for the world.
The story isn’t finished—it’s waiting for Elders to pick up the pen.
The next chapter of our culture begins the moment Elders start writing it.
Next week: What narratives actually ARE - and why most people don’t realize they’re living inside one.

As you will see as this new story unfolds, the greater the connectivity of the many Elder conversations, the greater their influence on shifting the cultural narrative. Thanks for engaging.
Avivah, you are a remarkable storyteller, shifting the narrative of growing old by creating a community to hear and retell your stories. These communities are expanding globally. In our last Elderly or Elder webinars, we had representatives from 10 different countries. Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Canada, the U.K. (including London and Ireland), Spain, France, Portugal, and across the U.S. It's now a narrative about growing old that is in the midst of change. Thank you. It's happening and it's very real.
