A One Minute Elder
The Elder Field
The Elder Field
A FIELD IS
A field is not a thing you touch. It is an organizing influence you live inside.
Gravity is a field. Culture is a field. Language is a field. A family is a field. Politics is a field.
A field shapes what happens within it.
A field influences perception, behavior, mood, expectation, and possibility. It tells people, often without words, what is normal here, what is allowed here, what is dangerous here, what matters here, and who they get to be here.
Most of the time, people do not notice the field they are in. They simply adapt to it. They think their thoughts are entirely their own, their reactions are purely personal, and their limitations are just reality. Usually, they are responding to a field they cannot distinguish. Unobserved and therefore unknown, yet powerfully influential.
That is exactly how the cultural field of aging works.
By the time you reach later life, you are already living inside a powerful field shaped by ageism, withdrawal, diminishment, confinement, and managed decline. The field says: step aside, reduce your horizon, be careful, don’t ask too much risk now.
It doesn’t shout. It whispers. It normalizes. It trains. It eliminates possibility and calls it realism, which leaves you hopeless and resigned.
An Elder is someone who steps out of that field and, in doing so, begins to generate another one.
The Elder Field is the relational and psychological environment created by a person whose life is organized around self-understanding, integrity, responsibility, contribution, and being a non-reactive presence.
When such a person, an Elder, enters a family, a conversation, an organization, or a community, the environment changes. People think more clearly. React less impulsively. See farther. Speak more honestly. Noise lowers. Perspective returns. What matters becomes easier to recognize. The common good becomes common.
This is why the Elder Field is determinant.
Because fields determine outcomes long before decisions are made. They shape the kind of thinking available in the room. They influence whether people contract or open, polarize or listen, rush or reflect, protect themselves or serve what is needed. In that sense, the field is not background. It is causative.
The Elder Field is not mystical. It is not branding. It is not charisma. It is the real-world effect of a human being whose presence stabilizes the environment around them.
That is what the Elder field means.
Not simply an older person with more years, but an Elder whose very way of being becomes a force that alters what is possible for others.

The body breathing itself is a compelling argument for potential manifesting from the field spontaneously, but me forcing myself to get out of bed in the morning is a persuasive argument for cause and effect, which, according to Dr Hawkins video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3jpB8HxAig) does not exist. Holding those two paradoxical truths at once is a tall order. great piece, Marc.
